A Look Back
Replays from Weds May 6th & Thursday May 7th.
Not too much to report from Weds, when looking back I try not to make note of horses that win well, they are obvious and generally will not be much value next time out. I try and find something that is running on from the back or one that had a tough trip or trouble in running.

Do Bronxs, sat in rear still with plenty to do coming round the final bend, followed through the eventual winner without being given a hard ride, stayed on well enough under a hand ride passing horses rated higher. Has been Gelded since last year and dropped into a class 3 handicap looked to be more at home amongst these. Would be interested in this horse in a stiff 6f or a step up to 7f in a 0-90 grade on the back of this run.

STRATUSNINE was very Unlucky in this race, having traveled through the race well they got to the final turn and the horse was in a great position to challenge on the outside, just getting into full stride, when his back legs slipped and jockey .. thinking there was issue immediately eased the horse and pulled him up. When things fall right, this one will go close in one of these big handicap races, form is there and the horse seems to have the right attitude and enough ability. The fact we were pulled up may buy us a couple of extra points on the price next time out.

Dubai Bling, the eventual runner up in this one was desperately unlucky not to get home. Sat on the rail for most of the race travelled really well throughout, jockey looked as though he was going to wait for the gap to open inside at the cutaway, but thinks started to look messy with a couple of horses making a dash for the cutaway, credit to Billy Loughnane he immediately decided to pull the horse around 3 or four in front of him to get a run, saw daylights once well inside the final furlong and then sprouted wings, another few strides would have got up in this race, seems to be bigger and better to come in his future. One I would like to keep on side.

Jazz Queen followed her stablemate the entire way around the track, the two sat towards the rear and started a run inside the 2f, eventual winner always had the first run, but Jazz Queen seemed to stay on a little stronger and finished within 1/2 length of eventual winner in this race, appeared as though a step up to 6f would suit a more galloping track or a slightly stiffer test may bring out a little more too. Seems to be just a matter of time before this one gets her head in front.

Two to take from this both Factual and Moonfall ran similar races, both sat mid to rear on the rail and both had to Wait until around 1f from home to open up and show what they had left in the tank. Factual got the first run and came wide to finish the race strongly off a slowish pace, Moonfall got going just a couple of strides later, but put in his fastest sectional of the whole race inside the last furlong and had more to give at the line, Both should come on for this and will show up well with a faster pace to run off in future handicap race

Anyone that has a pair of eyes can watch this replay and pick out the one to take from the race, not sure how much more obvious they could make it that today was not the day. TICKETS, came out a little slow and held up in rear horse was pulling hard to go forward but was restrained, as they came towards the 2f mark the horse was squeezed a little between a couple of others and once again held back. Horse was given his head around 1.5 from home and started picking up positions while the jockey sat motionless, approaching the final ½ f and with the race well and truly out of reach .. the jockey pushed the horse a little to show some kind of effort and the horse closed the race having never been in a position to challenge.
I have not really been able to see much of pattern as to when and where the horse tends to run better than not, Generally Newcastle is his best track and all wins have been over 6 or 7f … but he is entered into a 5f handicap race at Catterick on the 11th May. Does not seem ideal, but will have a look closer to the time if he is declared for that one.
I will be back Later with “A Look Ahead” for tomorrows racing.
