Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Thursday
Quiet week so far, not too much to write home about. One of the horses that we bet on last week Sixcor, won today when we decide to leave it.
We did have two targets for tomorrow, but am going to just roll with the bigger price selection, had a few small niggles with the other and the price did not quite justify the risk.
Speed Figure Picks
4.00 Carlisle : Keep The Gold @ 19.0 win bet
Today’s 16:00 5f handicap at Carlisle looks tricky on the surface, but a deep dive into the speed figures reveals a standout wager.
We quickly discarded the majority of the field - many are hopelessly handicapped against their recent speed ratings. Keep The Gold, however, took the top spot on our shortlist with a decent speed figure advantage over his current rating, alongside main dangers Harry Mole and Crafty Spirit.
Keep The Gold is our confident selection. He is a pure 5f specialist dropping significantly in class from 0-70 company into a 0-60 handicap off a career-low mark of 54. While Stall 14 seems wide, the pace data shows front-runner Never Dark in Stall 13 will act as the perfect "tow-rope" to drag him into a prominent tracking position.
Crucially, the sectional data seals the deal. Keep The Gold possesses explosive gate speed (clocking a 13.54s opening furlong) and maintains a highly efficient 100%+ finishing speed. In direct contrast, Harry Mole has proven vulnerable to Carlisle’s stiff uphill finish, fading badly late here in May.
With jockey Connor Beasley in red-hot form (a 50% place rate over the last 14 days) and trainer Michael Dods operating profitably at this track, everything aligns perfectly for a big run.
