Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Monday 18th May at Carlisle, Lingfield, Redcar, Windsor & Wolverhampton.

A Nice 16/1 winner for the speed stats yesterday

Jockey/Trainer Stats

Redcar - 4:10 - Perfect Ruler.
Haggas / Fallon - 9 runs, 4 wins, 6 places.
First go with handicap mark of just 60.
Plenty short enough though @ 2/1+.

7.30 Wolvs - City Queen
Appleby is 17 from 43 at the track over the last 3 years, has just one runner tomorrow. Ridden by Planas who had one ride for him on Friday - won and one ride for him Saturday - won.

Repeat Performance

5:40 Windsor - Regal Envoy @ 4/1+

Went through a purple patch around this time last year, with three wins and a close second (one of those wins in this same race last year) from 4 runs in the space of a two month stint that took his OR from 84 to 95. 6 runs down toe field to end the year took his mark back down to 86, then a close third on reappearance in mid April dropped that mark another lb to 85, but the return to form signalled wellbeing. Followed up with a win at bath last time out from a mark of 85 and gets in here on 88 , the same as last year.

Is fit and well, had regained form, is going for same race as last year. Opened @ 4/1 on paddy which is about the right price. A win bet on this one from me.

Drops In Class

2.30 Carlisle - Acrisius @ 12/1 3 places

Won 3lto at Chester doing it nice and easy that day in a 0-70 class 5 from a mark of 71. That was last July. Bumped 7lbs for that win and up in grade on soft ground next time out. Had been off track for a couple of months and did not show much that day. Put away for the season and off a further 7 months, was bumped up again into a class 3 last time out for seasonal reappearance in a 0-95, and again showed little, likely needing the run.

Tomorrow, drops back in a class 5 for first time since the win. Record in class 5 reads 5 runs, 2 wins, 4 places. Should be comfortable at this grade. In the race from a mark of 75, next best is rated 72, so in effect a 0-70 here.

At the price worth a punt. I think this one goes off closer to 8/1.

Notebook Horses - lots to look at : will post them below.

2:40 - Redcar - Mariner @ 9/2

Notes from qualifying race :
15:53 Thirsk Friday 10 April 2026
HANDICAP (5) Distance : 7f 218y
Prize : £3,926 Rated : (0-70) Age : 4yo+

Mariner, very delicately handled here, going best into straight, allowed to come home in own time, not asked for too much of an effort in this race, pushed out once the race had gone and came home well enough, this was in a 0-70 as was last race.

Since ran close second in Doncaster handicap that he had won previous year. Should remain competitive.

2:40 - Redcar - Up The Jazz @ 11/2

20:25 Saturday 09 May 2026
HANDICAP (6) - Distance : 1m 53y Prize : £3,140
Rated : (0-65) Age : 4yo+ Race Type : Flat Surface : Turf Going : Good

Up The Jazz, Seems to have fallen to a mark that is workable now. Sat in the rear most of the race and as the pace started to pick up around the 2f mark had to give way to the eventual winner who had made the move slightly earlier than ours and had the right of way, Up The Jazz was last off the bridle and followed through the eventual winner as they went inside the final two furlongs, as the 1f mark approached we were able to finally get rolling and closed all the way to the line not missing by too far in the end. Had the jockey been a little more aware of surroundings a few seconds earlier in the race we may well have won this, but eventually had to settle for a close third. One to be interested against similar going forward.

4:10 - Redcar - Full Gas @ 5/1
Back down in grade, up in trip, like this one in here today.

18:00 Newcastle : HANDICAP (6) Distance : 6f Prize : £3,245
Rated : (0-65) Age : 3yo

Full Gas. Slow away, jockey not in too much rush early and managed the slow start well, started picking up after the first couple of furlongs and from that point forward ran faster sectionals to the line than every other race in the race.

Has two entries this weekend one in a 0-70 at Haydock and the other at Nottingham in a 0-60 , the stiffer test at Haydock may suit more, but it is a tougher ask.

20:00 Wolvs - The Ubermensch @ 5/1

Last chance for this one before I remove it from my notebook. Back to scene of notebook ride, stepped up in trip from that, same claimer up top too, not sure if that is a help of hindrance.

Notes from qualifying race :

6 apr : Apprentice Handicap - 1m½f, Class 6, £5,234
I generally don't take form into or out of amateur races, however one that caught the eye in this was the runner up The Ubermensch, This was handicap debut for the horse from a mark of 60 and the horse was held up early at the back of the field, always looked comfortable enough and was in touch but still last as they made the turn for home, 2f out as the others were pressing for home the horse seemed to be a little awkward when asked for an effort and took a while to get organised, jockey tried to thread through but did not do the greatest job. This looked to be a case of the right horse, but the wrong day, should have won, had the best ability in the race, was not given the best ride, and with a smoother passage should have taken this and won going away, was screaming out for a competent jockey.

20:10 Windsor - Cape Toronada @ 7/1 +

16:00 Monday 04 May 2026
HANDICAP (Qualifier) (6) Distance : 5f 160y
Prize : £5,234 Rated : (0-55) Age : 3yo Race Type : Flat Surface : Turf

Cape Toronada should probably have finished closer in this one, if not won the race. Was going much the best throughout, but stuck behind a wall of horses, the jockey should really have been a little more attentive to positioning at the 3f mark as the horse was looking for a way though and a skip to the right would have given the horse an opportunity to get a run to the line, by the time the jockey realised that the gap was not going to open, the race was coming to the final furlong and he had to wait for one to pass on the outside before being able to follow that horse through. Ran on well to the line, but the race had gone, should be competitive in a similar grade going forward.

21:00 Wolvs - Free Speech @ 7/1

17:20 Friday 01 May 2026
HANDICAP (5) Distance : 1m 2f 42y
Prize : £5,234 Rated : (0-75) Age : 4yo+ Race Type : Flat Surface : Artificial

After 8 months off the rack this one went through the race well enough, always in behind horses and never so much as asked for any kind of effort horse was trapped on the rail and once approx 1f from home jockey dropped hands and let him come home in his own time. New trainer should have learned plenty from the run, horse should have blown away the cobwebs and I would expect a more aggressive ride next time out as the horse looked as though it had plenty to give in this kind of race as this kind of grade. Would no doubt have been much closer had they given the horse an opportunity to race.
