Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Sunday 17th May - Meetings from Hamilton and Ripon.
Jockey/Trainer Stats
Hamilton
Haggas record here over the last 2 years is fantastic.
14 runners - 7 wins and 13 placed.
He has two runners tomorrow
4.45 Hamilton- Valiancy @ 2.75
5.45 Hamilton - Seren Star @ 3.50
Both must have a great chance.
A small win double for me on those two at odds around 9.63
Over at Ripon, the top jockey in terms of win % over the last 2 years is
Cieren Fallon, with 12 runs - 5 wins and 8 places. (42% strike rate)
He rides two tomorrow, the most likely looks to be
3.17 Ripon - Finlaggan @ 2/1+ for OMeara.
Drops In Class
5.15 Hamilton - Jordan Electrics
@ 7.5 365 / coral / laddies
Set blistering early pace in a class 2 heritage handicap at Ascot last time out over 7f. Faded late. I was hoping for a drop into a 6f race .. but he goes here in a 5f 0-90. Is top rated and second top rated is 86. So in effect a 0-85 race. Last race average 95 - this race average 79.
Is a track specialist with 9 wins from 22 runs. Mulrennan has won on the horse 7 times. Over track and trip lifetime stats are 7 runs, 3 wins. Should be much the best, drop to 5f worries me a little, but price of 13/2 in places with each way cover down to 4 places means this should really be a shot to nothing.
3.50 Ripon - Lebron Power
@ 15/2 all books e/w 3 places.
In august won a class 4 Nursery off a mark of 83, then thrown into a listed event and was outclassed that day beaten 10 lengths. The back into a more reasonable class 4 Nursery again and wins from a mark of 86. The thrown into a class 2 handicap and again outclassed. Now back into a more reasonable class 3 race from a mark of 88, next best rated has an OR of just 83. Once again should be going close against these. Price of 15/2 is reasonable for the chance.
Other fancies : E/W steal.
3.17 Ripon Sunday - Bay Dream Believer
@ 33/1 4 places @ 365, betfred,
Trainer won this same race last year, horse last win was from a mark of 61 over track and trip, gets in here tomorrow from a mark of 59. Over this track and trip the horse has 5 runs, with 3 wins and 4 places.
Trainer has a 12% strike rate in handicap races, at this track that improves to 30%+
Can see a big improvement tomorrow and expect a big run at what looks to be a big price.
I don't have either of the books to have a bet in here on this one at this price, so I'm hoping the price holds. I suspect it will be lower in the morning. I can see this one going off around 12/1.
Notebook Horses
4.15 Hamilton - ALASRAE
@ 7/1 e/w 4 places.
Strong race, but no reason why this one cannot put in another very competitive race against these. Price is fair for the chance.
Notebook race notes
17:50 Lingfield Tuesday 28 April 2026
HANDICAP (4) Distance : 6f 1y - Prize : £5,234
Rated : (0-85) Age : 3yo Race Type : Flat Surface : Artificial Going : Slow
Alasrae was a little slow away, came here after three wins and two seconds from his last 5 runs. Sent off the 5/2 fav was drawn widest of all and was switched from out the gates all the way to the inside rail towards the rear. As they came round the turn the horse was looking for a way out and had to check and come around the one in front at a crucial time to get a run, when in the clear had plenty to give and ran his fastest sectional in the final furlong showing there was still some gas in the tank at the line. SHould remain competitive at this level going forward.
4.50 Ripon Far Ahead.
@ 6/1 - 4 places e/w
Had shown little form since being handed an opening handicap mark of 83. 9 runs later and the horse is now running from a mark of 48. Last time out stayed on well enough with little to no encouragement from the saddle.
Timeform said “had been badly out of sorts but took a step back in the right direction, sure to have finished closer granted a clearer passage, too; held up, raced freely, going well when not clear run from 2f out, got gap final 100 yds, kept on for hand riding; he's down to a basement mark and looks one to be interested in all of a sudden.”
Probably worth a half stakes bet given 4 places are available. Could be a flash in the pan, but did show signs of life. Now going from lowest mark of career in lowest grade race of career against lowest rated opposition.
5.15 Hamilton - Jordan Electrics was one qualifier from this race, writeup above.
The other is
5.15 Hamilton - Reigning Profit
@ 5/1 and 6/1 4 places
As a saver to the Jordan Electrics bet. If that one slips up or cannot make the 5f trip work, then this one will be coming late to try and sneak through.
Personally i will be looking for around 6/1 in-play, it will be coming late and it will be running into trouble, so we should get a bigger in-play price.
Notes from Notebook Race
07 Apr - HANDICAP : 5f 3y Rated : (0-100) Age : 4yo+
The other that was an eye catcher in this race was the old boy REIGNING PROFIT - always looked to have plenty of running but none of the gaps opened in front to allow for a run to the line, another that always seems to go well at the sprint races at the northern tracks, and also another that is probably handicapped correctly right now, had a few nice runs about this time last year, but those were at 5-10lbs lower marks, so it might be tough to catch the right race for this one to take another step forward from this mark.
Speed Figure Picks
3:17 Ripon - Poet's Dawn @ 16/1 4 places with Paddy e/w
3:50 Ripon - Alpine Girl @ 11/2 3 places paddy/sky e/w
4:45 Hamilton - Savrola @ 11/1 4 places Paddy e/w
Can he win for us tomorrow ?
