Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Friday
Well, we finally hit a couple of winners, at 4.5 and 9.0
(Iris Dancer from our course specialist method)
and we picked up some place money too.
Working on the profit/loss as we speak, will have that for you in tomorrows email. I intend to do every 10 days or so.
Hopefully we can kick on from here now and put some money in the bank. To be honest - when I wrote up for tomorrow I was expecting bigger prices on the ones that I have looked at. Am sending out the email right after initial prices have been posted, but wait for other books to price and shop around, we may do better elsewhere.
Edit : First from today also wins well … Return To Unit
I told you to keep an eye out for the drift, I posted on twitter that it was now a bet .. and it obliterates them. opened @ 7/2 .. advised at 5/1 / 11/2 - wins @ 13/2
Repeat Performance
1.50 York - Feel The Need @ 15.0 - 5 places
Winner of this same race last year from a mark of 74.
Horse has run 15 times at the track. Has only ever placed at the 7f trip.
Over track and trip the horse has 11 runs, 2 wins, 4 places.
In class 4 races that becomes 9 runs with the same 2 wins, 4 places.
I think the last run can be excused as they were likely thinking ahead to this race, that run was also off the back of a 4 month break. I suspect they were just airing the horse out to make sure it got back into a routine.
Before that was a close second at Southwell in January, showing potential is still there.
The race looks ultra competitive and we should get a big price, I’m willing to take a swing at a price with an extra place or two on offer.
We are also going to have a go on the other one from this category.
5.18 York - Dawn Of Liberation @ 11.0 - 5 places
Ruth Carr does a great job with older horses, keeps them running competitively in the bigger handicaps at the northern tracks.
After winning this race last year from a mark of 71 - OR was bumped to 80. after a few more runs he then put in a string of decent results at the higher mark with runs at Pontefract, Ripon and Ayr from marks of 79 where he was beaten less than a length in each race. (Fentiman was up top for those three runs)
Noticing his mark was probably a little high they ran him down the field in higher grade races, mark down 11lbs since then. Last couple of races has once again been getting closer to the front of the race than the back and is certainly looking ready to roll again at his current mark of 70.
Switch back to Fentiman tomorrow, targeting a race the horse won very well last year, down 11lbs from mark of last year, form on upward swing.
Worth a go at the price for sure. Most books offering 5 places .. sky offer 6 places.
Horses For Courses
1.30 Chester - Paws For Thought @ 7.0 - 3 places
Won this same race back in 2023 with today’s jockey up top. (Turner) She only ever had two rides for McCain, both on this horse. The winning ride over track and trip back in June 2023, then at Ascot in October the same year.
The horse itself has won here at Chester over 5f, 5.5f, 6f and also at this 7f trip. Indeed over track and trip the horse is 10 runs - 3 wins - 6 places.
At the track the horse is 27 runs - 6 wins and 11 places.
The horse is 7 wins from 20 runs at this grade
Last win was here in September over 5.5f in a 0-80 from a mark of 74. Before that you have to go back to summer 2024 when the horse ran at the track 4 times , winning twice in class 4’s and running close in class 2 and 2 races from marks in the mid 80’s.
The jockey booking is what interests me most in this amateur handicap race, hopefully they are here to have a go and if they are, I suspect we may get a price.
Edit : Price is nowhere near what I expected.
Speed Figure Picks
1.38 Sandown - Twilight Calls @ 6.0 - 3 places
This one may drift, i was expecting bigger.
Was not too long ago that this one was running in group races and not being beaten too far. The horse was sold at the end of October 2024 for 80k and moved from H Candy to Richard Spencer.
At the time his OR was 104. They ran the horse in 8 races, a mixture of group races and class 2’s once they became available. They did not see too much from the horse and he OR dropped 8 lbs in that time. Then they sent the horse over to Meydan in Jan of this year. The horse ran four times over there and dropped another 10lbs in that time.
Brought back to the UK in March , given a run in a class 3 28k handicap at newcastle where it was beaten 3.5 lengths in a 0-90 from a mark of 82. He ran well for much of the race getting tired late on up the hill over 6f after being off course for 6 months.
Given a couple of months off to recover from that, he is now entered into a 0-80 class 4 race over a shorter trip, which should suit well. Runs from a mark of 80 here.
Will be fitter for the last run. Interesting that Saffie Osborne is booked as she was given the opportunity to ride twice just before the horse was sent over to Meydan.
I had a quick look at some of the owners other purchases and he does seem to like a well handicapped horse that can go on a bit of a run. If that is what is happening here, this one is primed and ready to roll , down 24lbs since purchase. I don’t see his mark dropping much lower than this if there is anything left in the tank at 8 years old.
I’m expecting a run for my money.
