Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Saturday.

7 bets so far in August. 3 winners. We are ticking along nicely. The more selective approach seems to be working. Profit of 5 points from those 7 runners.

Hopefully we can keep it going on Saturday.

8 meetings, 54 races to go through. Am avoiding Ascot as many of those horses have form in Dubai that is difficult to get a handle on. Also non-regular jockeys to contend with. I call these “Novelty meetings” and wont be drawn in.

Competitive field sizes in a lot of those races tomorrow, which is nice to see. Unfortunately the 4-7 runner handicaps we are seeing more and more of over here, often turn out to be uncompetitive races, run under false tempo’s. It pays to be more selective I think when those are the opportunities we are being given.

Anyway, enough whining, lets get to it.

A few “almost” bets … At Redcar I liked Frankies dream in the 3.12, wide open race, but has been very competitive against better recently. Drops in grade here and should go close, I do think he is a better horse on the all weather though.

in the 3.47 - Democracy Dilemma should simply be too good for these. This is a solid class 2 horse that was winning listed races two years ago. If the horse cannot win this against class 4 handicappers he may as well give it up. Price is understandably short and I just cant play at that side of the market.

3.55 Ascot, Blue Hercules will likely be right up there at the business end of the race, ran a close second in a much better race last time out over this same track and trip. I would be all over this if it wasn’t one of those shergar cup novelty races.

Liked the look of Leadman at Haydock, but the stiff mile will catch him out again I think, he is likely going to find one or two too good again here, I think the entry he has at York in a couple of weeks is the more likely target for that one.

Drops In Class

6.00 Ayr - Harb @ 12.0 + win bet (only 365 priced so far)

Won this same race last year. Showed a massive upswing in form last time out when denied a run yet still finished less than 2 lengths off the winner in a 0-75 race at Hamilton.

Harb's profile shows a very clear ceiling in the handicap, operating most effectively in lower-tier contests.

His recent victories have all come in Class 5 (0-68 to 0-75) and Class 6 (0-65) company. He is highly effective when his Official Rating (OR) drops to 65 or below, as demonstrated by his solid 2024 and 2025 campaigns on both Turf and the All-Weather.

Sitting on a current mark of 61, he is extremely well-handicapped. He recently won off 62 at Carlisle in May 2026 and Newcastle in February 2026, meaning he is well within his strike zone for a Class 5 or Class 6 event.

Harb is a quintessential closer, which dictates exactly how his races need to unfold for him to be competitive. He is almost always "held up," "waited with," or positioned in "mid-field." To run his best race, he requires a strong, contested early pace to collapse the leaders, allowing him to swoop late.

Timeform predicts a strong pace here on Saturday, he is back down a mark at which he should be ultra competitive, in a grade he should have no trouble being competitive in. The one negative is how his 7lb claimer may handle having to come through traffic to steer him close to the front and get a run to the line, but everything else looks right … I’m willing to take a chance at the price.

Speed Figure Picks

18:10 Lingfield : Carefree Dream - @ 4.5 win bet

In today’s 5f Lingfield sprint, Carefree Dream is our top pick. While Go Lockers Go and Sunlit Sea made the initial shortlist on raw speed, we discarded them: Go Lockers Go hails from a cold yard, and Sunlit Sea is stepping up into much tougher company.

We settled on Carefree Dream because she is dropping significantly in class. While pace and draw data initially hinted she might get trapped back in the field, her extended form comments and sectional times over this exact course and distance prove she actually possesses the tactical gate speed to track the leaders. With a red-hot rival stable artificially inflating Sunlit Sea's chances, Carefree Dream is positioned to slip under the radar.

7.40 Lingfield : Arantes Nascimento @ 5.0 win bet

In today's Lingfield feature, Arantes Nascimento stands out as our clear selection after dominating the initial speed ratings. We ultimately discarded Huscal, whose timing data shows he fades when pushed early, and Red Hat Eagle, who expends too much energy pulling hard and relies on outdated form. We also passed on Port Road, as his wide draw makes him tactically vulnerable.

Conversely, Arantes Nascimento maps perfectly. Drawn well in stall 2 for a moderate early pace, he can secure a prime ground-saving tracking position on the rail. He is highly consistent in this grade and boasts a narrow near-miss over this exact course and distance. Crucially, late-race sectional data proves his finishing kick on the all-weather is unmatched in this field. With a top-tier professional like Benoit De La Sayette booked to offset a quiet stable, he is primed for a big run.

Though the stats are strong on this one, i’m not as confident as I was on the other one for today, but the numbers tell us we should be on board here, so it is a bet.
