Welcome to MarkYourCard for racing on Saturday.

New month. clean slate and lets see what damage we can do for August. Its been a quiet last couple of months, very much standing still. Will put in the hours and see if we can take a little from the bookies while the bookies are still taking the bets.

A couple to come for Saturday. Good luck if you play along.

Drops In Class

8.00 Hamilton - Hundred Caps @ 6.0 win bet

Has been running respectably in class 4 races after a decent flurry of runs in class 5 pushed him into the higher grade.

Had a win and two seconds in class 4 races at the start of this year on all weather tracks that pushed his OR from 73 up to a mark of 80.

Fallen now back down a more realistic 75. Last time out in a 0-85ran up with the pace and was caught late to go down just 2l in fourth.

Average OR that day was 81. Tomorrow we drop back into a class 5 race with an Average OR of just 67. This should be much more his level.

In class 5 races the horse has run 9 times, winning two and placing 4 times. Should be competitive in this one at a fair price.

Speed Figure Picks

17:10 Newmarket: Merrimack @ 4.0 win bet

This 5f sprint at Newmarket presents a classic tactical puzzle where early speed is likely to dictate the outcome.

Our initial shortlist highlighted Merrimack and Silky Robin based on their impressive recent speed figures. However, a deeper dive into the form book quickly exposed Silky Robin as a habitual slow starter stepping up into tougher company—a dangerous combination in a race devoid of early pace. We drew a line through him.

This leaves the race at the mercy of Merrimack. Breaking from stall 6, he possesses blistering early gate speed (clocking an impressive 13.43s opening furlong in a recent win). With no other confirmed front-runners in the field, he should easily set his own tempo. Crucially, he is dropping slightly in class today while arriving in peak, consistent form, backed up by a 64% place rate with today's jockey, C. Lyons.

The main danger is Sound And Vision. Ridden by the red-hot Billy Loughnane, she possesses a devastating late finishing kick. However, our sectional data reveals she can be sluggish early. If Merrimack is allowed an easy lead, he should have enough in reserve to hold off her late surge.
